CMS Family Night at the Magic House - Thursday, March 8 (2/14)
Once again, The Magic House in Kirkwood has been reserved exclusively for our CMS families! Mark your calendar for Thursday, March 8 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Cost is $20 per family. Forms must be returned to the office by March 1.

2012-13 Tuition Assistance Forms due by February 21 (2/14)
Applications for tuition assistance for the 2012-13 School Year are due no later than February 21. More information can be found on this page of our website: http://cmsstl.org/FinancialAid.htm. All applications should be completed online.

Valentine Making Party - Friday, February 10 (2/14)
CMS' after-school Valentine Making Party was a great success! Students and their parents enjoyed creating unique valentines and necklaces for their loved ones. A special thanks to the Parent Social Committee for making this a very fun and successful event.

Dr. Tim Jordan Lecture at CMS - Thursday, February 9 (1/31)
As part of our Programs for Parents evening lecture series, internationally recognized developmental and behavioral pediatrician Dr. Tim Jordan will speaking to the CMS community about "Keeping the End in Mind," on Thursday, February 9 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. Free child care is available to currently enrolled students.

New Parent Coffee - Tuesday, February 7 (1/31)

CMS at the Living Fit Expo - Saturday, January 28 (1/27)
Discover Montessori with Chesterfield Montessori School at the Living Fit Expo this weekend! Saturday, January 28 at Plaza Frontenac, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

CMS 6th Grader Chosen as Student Ambassador for People to People Program (1/20)
We are proud to announce that a CMS 6th grader has been chosen to be a student ambassador for People to People Ambassador Programs, which was created by President Eisenhower after World War II in order to create peace between countries.

For People to People, our new student ambassador will travel and work in Australia this summer. Since student ambassadors are encouraged to fundraise for the trip's tuition, our student will be collecting phones that need to be recycled. Please drop off any unwanted phones to the CMS office by Friday, February 24th.


CMS 1st Grader Wins 6th Place in Missouri Dept of Conservation Contest (1/20)
Congratulations to Olivia Qian, a first grader in Ms. Tina's Lower Elementary Class, for winning 6th place in the Missouri Department of Conservation's 2011 Missouri Endangered Species Contest!

Each student chose an endangered Missouri midsized river species to research and made a postcard picture. Over 700 students grades K-12 entered the contest. Olivia was a top ten finalist in the K-2 age bracket. Great job!!


Capital Campaign for New Gym is Underway (1/20)
We are so pleased with the CMS community's generous donations to our 2012 Capital Campaign to date! A special thank you to each and every one of you who is helping to make our dream of a new gymnasium a reality.

In order to begin construction this summer, we are asking each family to give from the heart in order to help us to meet our goal of raising $300,000 by January 31st. In order to find out about our Capital Campaign and to track our daily fundraising progress, please visit our website.


French Session III - "What are you wearing?" (1/9)
Don't forget to register for CMS' French Session III! Madame Beth's after-school French language immersion program will focus on the theme "What are you wearing?" for this next session.

French Session III will run from January 23rd through March 15th. Classes are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. for children age 4 and older. Cost for Mondays is $70 plus $5 for snack for a total of 7 sessions; and cost for Thursdays is $80 plus $5 for snack for a total of 8 sessions.

CMS Alumni Night - Thursday, January 26 (1/9)
Thursday, January 26, 5:30 - 7:00 pm. As part of our Programs for Parents series, Kindergarten and elementary parents are invited to hear a panel of CMS alumni and their parents talk about their experiences after CMS, the preparation a Montessori education has given them for their secondary and high schools, and the long-term benefits of a Montessori education.

Attendance is strongly encouraged. Childcare will be provided with a free pizza dinner. RSVP required; please respond to melissa@chesterfieldmontessori.org.


Parent/Child Day and Pancake Breakfast - Saturday, January 21 (1/9)
It is time for our annual Parent/Child Day once again! This special day gives parents the opportunity to see the beautiful accomplishments of their children in the classroom. In order for the teachers to be able to spend time with each child's family and allow ample space for everyone, we ask that you please follow this schedule: Last names A-F: 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.; G-N 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.; O-Z 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A full pancake breakfast will also be available, thanks to the Parent Social Committee, for $5.00/plate.

Chess Club beginning in January 2012 (12/15)
Chess Club is coming to CMS in January! Session I to be held on Mondays beginning January 9 through March 12, from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Registration form is available at the front desk.

Join chess teacher Joseph Garnier as he guides a journey into a world of tactics and strategy. No previous experience is necessary. Each student will be placed in a group according to his/her level for tailored instruction. Players will practice their tactics and strategy while improving their critical thinking skills. All supplies provided.


Holidays Around the World - Friday, December 16 (12/5)
Mark your calendar for your annual global trek at CMS' Holidays Around the World celebration! Parents are invited to join Toddlers from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., and all other classrooms from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.

Morning Coffee with Anita - Tuesday, December 6 (12/5)

This is a very informative session and we would like to have you join us.

French Session II: La Cuisine (11/17)
It is not too late to sign up for for Session II of CMS' after-school French language immersion program with Madame Beth! This series will focus on cooking and baking in "La Cuisine," a wonderful opportunity for your children to practice their cooking skills and converse in French.

French classes begin Thursday, November 10th through Thursday, December 15th (no class on Thanksgiving). The classes are from 3:00-4:00 p.m. for students ages 4+. Cost is: $55 (plus an additional $5 if your child needs snack). Class size is limited, so email beth@chesterfieldmontessori.org to sign up today!


CMS 1st Annual "Turkey Trot" - Friday, November 18 (11/8)
Put your running shoes on! The Adolescent Program will be hosting the 1st annual Chesterfield Montessori "Turkey Trot" on Friday, November 18 at 3:15 p.m. Students and parents are invited to trot the one-mile course around our school campus. Registration forms including t-shirt orders are due no later than Tuesday, November 8th.

Bring Your Dad to School Day (11/7)
All fathers are invited to spend time working with your child at school this week. Bring Your Dad to School Day will take place over two days: Tuesday, November 8 for last names A-L; and Wednesday, November 9 for last names M-Z. At 8:00 a.m. a freshly made breakfast prepared by the CMS Parent Social Committee will be served in the Upper Lobby; classroom time will be from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m.

Guest Speaker Dr. Annette Haines at Chesterfield City Hall (11/1)
Thursday, November 17, 6pm to 7pm: As part of CMS' 2011-12 Programs for Parents evening lecture series, world-renowned Montessori expert Dr. Annette Haines will address child development in her speech, "Your Child Will Never Be This Age Again: Maximizing Optimal Development from Birth through Adolescence." Riddle Day - Friday, October 28 (10/25)
Last Friday the school welcomed famous figures such as Cleopatra, Martha Graham, Shaun White, Mother Theresa, Neil Armstrong, Josephine Baker, Queen Elizabeth and many more during our annual Riddle Day, presented by CMS lower and upper elementary students.

Welcome Back and New Parent Coffee - Tuesday, September 13 (9/13)
Thank you to all who attended our Welcome Back to School and New Parent Coffee this morning. We are so pleased to welcome such wonderful new families to our school community and look forward to a great 2011-2012 school year.

CMS Teachers Continue to Achieve AMI Certification (9/8)
At Chesterfield Montessori School we are very fortunate to have our teachers achieve the highest levels of Montessori training through the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). This rigorous certification program enables us to provide your children with a truly authentic Montessori education at all levels of their schooling and holds our school in the upper echelon of authentic Montessori schools worldwide. This year we are pleased to announce that four staff members are in various phases of completing their AMI certification at different levels: Alessandra Abel, who holds her Primary certification, has completed the first year of her elementary certification; Sharlenceia K'Nuckles has completed her first year of toddler certification; Melissa Long has completed two years of primary training; and Amapoula Martinez has received her certificate for elementary training and is now working on a Masters degree.

New and Returning Students Open House - Friday, August 19 (8/17)
Welcome back to school! Our Open House for new and returning students will held on Friday, August 19. All families are encouraged to attend. This is a wonderful opportunity to get reacquainted with your child's teacher and meet other families in the classroom. We look forward to seeing you there.

First Day of School - 2011-2012 School Year (8/17)
The first day of school for the 2011-2012 school year is Wednesday, August 31. We are so happy to welcome everyone back to school!

Drop off begins at 8:00 a.m. unless your children are enrolled in the before-care program.


Montessori Training Center of St. Louis Held on CMS Campus (7/21)
Chesterfield Montessori School is proud to house the Montessori Training Center of St. Louis. Held on the CMS campus during the summer months for the last several years, the Montessori Training Center of St. Louis provides authentic Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) training to all Montessori educators. This year sessions run from June 20 through August 12.


CMS Summer Program is in Full Swing (7/21)
The kids at CMS' 2011 Summer Program are having a fantastic summer.  Offering a good balance of indoor and outdoor activities, the program includes daily swimming and tennis lessons, gardening and of course an AMI-certified Montessori education. Session III will begin August 1st.

CMS Alumni are among Whitfield School's 2011 Award Recipients (5/26)
Chesterfield Montessori School alumni Michael Schifano, Alexander Sarr, Bridget Sarr and Mackenzie Morrison received awards at Whitfield School's 2011 award ceremony. Our warmest congratulations to our former students, who have continued their academic and personal excellence through their high school years.

Elementary Spring Plays - Friday, May 20 (5/20)
The annual Spring Plays were performed by CMS' lower and upper elementary students on Friday, May 20th at 6:00 pm at the West County YMCA.

Sixth Grade Graduation Ceremony - Wednesday, May 25 (5/17)
A graduation ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 25th for the 6th grade class: Tyler Bealke, Alex Dirksen, Cal Fiala, Imani Magare and Claire Malast. We are very proud of our graduates, and we know they will be successful in their future endeavors. Congratulations CMS Class of 2011!


Chesterfield Mayor Visits CMS (5/11)
On Wednesday, May 11th, CMS was honored with a visit from the Mayor of Chesterfield, Mr. Bruce Geiger.

CMS Students Take Home Blue Ribbons from 2011 Science Fair (5/10)
CMS is so proud of Claire Malast, Tibka Carr and Ingrid Azrak for winning blue ribbons at the 2011 Greater St. Louis Science Fair. Claire's project was also honored with a special award from the Monsanto Fund. Red and white ribbons were also won by Jacob Conard and Mike Malast.

Theater Troupe to perform "Aladdin" at CMS - Friday, May 13 (5/4)
The Hampstead Players performed Aladdin at CMS on Friday, May 13th as part of their Spring 2011 National Tour.

CMS Family Kite Flying at Queeny Park - Saturday, May 7 (5/4)
On Saturday, May 7th CMS families met for a day of kite flying and a picnic lunch at Queeny Park.

Tree Ceremony on Friday, May 6 (5/4)
As part of a continuing effort to beautify our campus, CMS families and students participated in a Tree Dedication Ceremony on Friday, May 6th.  There are three magnolia trees still available. If you are interesting in purchasing one of these trees for our campus, please contact Amy Beger.

Summer Program Registration Space Still Available (4/28)
Looking for some great summer activities for your child? Look no further! Half and full day summer sessions are available for all primary and elementary students. Contact the office if you need an enrollment form. Session I begins June 6th.

Adolescent Classroom is Complete! (4/28)
Great news for our upcoming Adolescent Program--the classroom is finished and ready to welcome 7th and 8th graders for the 2011-2012 school year.

Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast - Tuesday, May 3 (4/28)
This breakfast was our way to say a special THANK YOU to all parent volunteers who have given so much of their time and energy to our school this past school year. We appreciate every effort and hope to have many more years of your continued support.

CMS Hidden Treasures Rummage Sale - Saturday, April 30 (4/18)
Held annually at CMS, this rummage sale is a great way to clean out your closets and discover new treasures! This was our best year to date. Information regarding the final total in profits will be made available soon.

Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart - Monday, April 18 (4/11)
On Monday, April 18th CMS students participated in the 2011 Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart to benefit the American Heart Association.

CMS Annual Science Fair - Week of April 11-15 (4/11)
Students displayed their 2011 Science Fair projects in the front lobby during the week of April 11th. Thank you to all students who participated and worked very hard to create great science projects.

CMS Family Night at the Magic House - Thursday, April 21 (3/30)
A great time was had by all families who attended our CMS Family Night at The Magic House! We would like to say a very big thank you to parent volunteer Jamie Schifano, who took the lead in organizing all the aspects of this event.

2nd Annual Trivia Night & Silent Auction - Saturday, April 9 (3/30)
The CMS 2nd Annual Trivia Night and Silent Auction was a great success, thanks not only to all the hard work and organization of the Committee, but also to the parents and staff who attended and volunteered.

CMS Sixth Graders on Trip to Olympic National Park Institute in Port Angeles, Washington (3/10)
Chesterfield Montessori's 6th Grade class recently took a class trip to the Olympic National Park Institute in Port Angeles, Washington with Upper Elementary teacher Jenna Raleigh.
